The work of Venezuelan-born artist, Adriana Mederos, is a fusion of experience,
memory, and a deep interest and love for line and color. Mederos' severe
myopia forces her to paint in close proximity to the canvas or paper -
as a result, her pieces, even when small works, are intensely rooted in the
dichotomy of micro and macro. Her Latino heritage is present throughout in
the colors and textures she uses. Her memories and experiences - whether from
viewing the earth's canvas from 30,000 feet or from the time spent by her father's
side as a girl, looking through his microscope at the world - find new life in the physicality
of her paintings and their syntax. Recently she has begun to incorporate printmaking
techniques into her paintings and this has infused the work with new vitality and vigor.
Since 1990, Adriana Mederos has lived in various cities in eastern Massachusetts,
including Boston. She has been an active and involved participant in the cultural
organizations of these communities.
Upon moving to Swampscott, MA with her two very creative children and the man of her life
- Stevie Black - Adriana entered the most prolific stage of her career as an
artist, producing hundreds of individual works, and showing frequently. She continues to
teach art to children in the local schools and paints in her studio daily.
